Bathroom Day 17

Back Home Up Next

1/9/00 - 1/15/00

1/9/00: Today we finished screwing down the underlayment and covered all the screws and joints with filler. We put a final coat of mud on the drywall joints. Ro is making another run to the depot. I am working on the wall on the outside of the bathroom, covering the seams and screws with mud.

1/10/00 - 1/14/00: Ro did more spackling, sanding and vacuuming, then she cleaned all the walls and ceiling with TSP. We also tore out the old shelf and clothes-rod in the closet. I seem to have matched the new part of the bedroom wall with the old.(Lots of spackle) The bathroom fan started vibrating so I took it out for a look-see. I scraped a cup of crud out of the fan and that was after blowing it out with compressed air.

1/15/00: Today, Ro braved the toxic fumes of primering the walls and ceiling. Remember how your eyes feel when you chop a real pungent onion, this stuff was ten times worse! I helped paint one little corner and my eyes were falling out of their sockets. Ro achieved manly status by taking on this job. I cut the shower walls to size and then we carried them into the house for a test fit and then to the living room to allow them to acclimate. Cutting the swanstone walls was a high-stress thing for the following reasons... 1) It's as hard as a rock, 2) No extra pieces, 3)The stuff is not cheap. I measured four times in the bathroom, laid out the cuts and checked them four times, then back to the bathroom for another measurement check, then checked the layout again and made the cuts. The fit around the plumbing is much better than the sheetrock! (See day 15)
