Home Theater Revisited

The  Spring 2007 Project was to re-do the living room one more time. This time: new carpet, new paint, new trim, new shelves and more lights, and the biggie - removing the horrible, much-hated popcorn ceiling.

Day 1: 3/3/2007

The required 'before' shot. Well, almost. We already emptied most of the shelves. Take note of the cruddy looking ceiling. The room is completely stripped of stuff.

Day 2: 3/11/2007

Here is some fancy handiwork by SOMEONE ELSE, NOT US! I present, the spackle ramp. The spackle ramp removed. A noisy, dusty, filthy project.

Day 3: 3/12/2007

Junkpile 2007: The major force driving the timing of this project was Santa Clara's annual clean-up campaign. We removed all the old carpet a few days earlier and it's in those black bags. The ceiling devoid of the horrible popcorn.
Floor, wall and window all masked-off in preparation for the texturing and painting phases. Quality Assurance checking on the masking job.

Day 4: 3/18/2007

Walls and ceiling freshly textured. Quality Assurance for the first coat of paint. It's called "Sunwashed Clay"

Day 5: 3/19/2007

This part we did not do ourselves. We called the man to take care of the carpet installation We found an oak floor register... we have been looking for a long time to find one that fits. We found it at the Lowe's in Fremont!
There's a splice in this base mold. The blue tape is protecting the carpet from any possible glue-slobber. This is a coped joint not a miter. Miters on inside corner joints are for amateurs.

Day 6: 3/20/2007

Second coat of paint finished, furniture moving back in. New sconces installed. Here's a detail shot of one of the new sconces and the new paint.

Day 7: 3/24/2007

The TV is hooked back up with a new RF distribution amplifier installed below. Still lots of wires left to go somewhere or another. The rear of the TV, all neatly bundled.

Day 8: 3/30/2007

Nearly complete. Shelves re-varnished, re-arranged and re-installed. Books and DVDs dusted and sorted. The new track lights make finding a movie or fiddling with the stereo much easier. A new set of shelves in the corner.
